Für Zugangsbeschränkungen existiert in EAD2002, EAD(DDB) und EAD 3.0 das Element accessrestrict:

Summary: An element for information about conditions that affect the availability of the materials being described. Description and Usage: Record in <accessrestrict> information about the availability of the described materials, whether due to the nature of the information in the materials being described, the physical condition of the materials, or the location of the materials. Examples include restrictions imposed by the donor, legal statute, repository, or other agency, as well as the need to make an appointment with repository staff. May also indicate that the materials are not restricted. |

In der praktischen Anwendung von EAD(DDB) - d.h. insbesondere im Falle von Datenlieferungen an die DDB - wird accessrestrict in vielen Fällen für die Angabe von Sperrfristen verwendet. Um den Access Status, wie er als normiertes Vokabular durch die Arbeitsgruppe Lizenzen vorgeschlagen wird, unabhängig davon zu hinterlegen, kann accessrestrict mit type-Attribut (@type="access status") genutzt werden:
