Preservation of digital media

The Austrian National Library started a digital preservation projekt in 2003. They want to implement an archiving system, develop a medatata-schema, test a migration scenario, raise the awarness and cooperate with other institutions.

The Baden-Wuerttemberg Online Archive (BOA)

BOA is a repository for online resources. The software was developed by the Library Service Centre Baden-Wuerttemberg. Web resources for the archive are selected and collected by the Baden State Library in Karlsruhe and the Wuerttemberg State Library in Stuttgart. Special emphasis is laid on PDF-documents and websites which are either legal deposit materials or relevant for the history and culture of Baden-Wuerttemberg. The web resources are stored on the project’s own servers; long term preservation is intended. The resources are fully catalogued and can be retrieved from either the BOA system itself, the union catalogue or the state libraries’ local catalogues.

DACHS - Digital Archive for Chinese Studies

Our aim is archiving and making accessible Internet resouces relevant for Chinese Studies, with special emphasis given on social and political discourse as reflected by articulations on the Chinese Internet.

Digitalization and long-term storage of large size plans

The project tests the whole workflow of digitalization, conversion and redigitalization of large format pictorial sources in a middle-sized municipal archive. Over 2500 plans referring to the history of the fortress of Mainz from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century are digitalized in authenthic colour and burnt on Ilford colour-microfilm with a RGB-Laser in DIN A4 format. Depending on the size up to 64 files can be stored on one film-page.
Project has endend 30.06.2006 and was transferred to regular operation.

Edoweb Rhineland-Palatinate

edoweb is a repository for online resources. The software was developed by the Hochschulbibliothekszentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen. Web resources for the archive are selected and collected by the Landesbibliothekszentrum / Rheinische Landesbibliothek Koblenz. Special emphasis is laid on PDF-documents and websites which are either legal deposit materials or relevant for the history and culture of Rhineland-Palatinate. The web resources are stored on the project’s own servers; long term preservation is intended. The resources are catalogued and can be retrieved from the edoweb system itself.

e-Helvetica

The goal of the e-Helvetica project is the elaboration of bases for building up a collection of electronic "helvetica" publications. The following aspects are being analysed within the project:
- Collection content and collection building
- Cataloguing
- Access
- Long term preservation
Legal and technical questions which are in relation with the digital collection of a national library are also treated."Helvetica" are publications from swiss authors, from swiss publishers and about Switzerland.
Since April 2012 e-Helvetica is a service of the Swiss National Library.

HSSS - HochschulschriftenServer der SLUB Dresden

The Online Document Server HSSS contains full texts of dissertations and habilitations as well as documents of research and science at the University of Technology Dresden.
The Online Document Server is a server of the SLUB Dresden and it serves as reference and long-term archive for scientific electronic documents of research and science at the University of Technology Dresden (TU Dresden).

The project long term preservation of the administration of state archives in lower saxony and the centre of informatics in lower saxony provides the infrastructure for all e-government projects of the region to secure the long term access to digital public administration papers. In addition to the definition of standards for the production of administrative papers there is a focus on the overall concept for an integrated infrastructure that covers the complete lifecycle of digital documents.

SaarDok

Electronic Documents from the Saarland Archive at the Saarland State Library, Germany

The collection policy of the Saarland University and State Library (SULB) includes archiving and description of electronic documents published within the region of Saarland as well as making these documents open to the public.
In order to preserve these documents and to keep them open to the public SULB offers with SaarDok an opportunity to publish and to assure access to region-specific documents and information.
SaarDok is based on a software of the library service center (BSZ) of the South-West-German library group (SWB), with which also online archives of Baden-Wuerttemberg (BOA) are operated. Additionally this application is hosted by the BSZ for the SULB.
