This is the event page of the 2025 EDUG Annual Meeting. The European DDC Users Group (EDUG) is the main interest group outside the USA for applications of the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), a classification system used in many libraries across the world to organize library collections.
At this year's meeting, one of the main topics will be Dewey as Linked Data:
Since a few months there are (again) URIs for Dewey numbers available! What is Dewey as Linked Data today? Which applications are already supported? What does the linked data landscape of European library communities look like and how do we see DDC URIs embedded there? We would like to discuss with you the potential and challenges of DDC linked data uses as seen from a European perspective.
The second part of the symposium will focus on using the DDC in WebDewey, the web application that today actually “is” the DDC. We would like to explore the following aspects:
The DDC, even in its current digital form, is still connected, technically and commercially, to the print version as well. This creates a number of disadvantages when working in WebDewey and is possibly a reason why the DDC does not yet seem to fit perfectly into the digital age. We would like to discuss the problems together and find out what changes would be necessary so that our work with the DDC fits in with the times.
